I swung open the door of Firehouse Subs, and instantaneously, my senses were greeted by the tantalizing aroma of hot, spicy subs. Tastefully open for both lunch and dinner, Firehouse Subs is well-known for its variety of sizzling subs and salads, each with a catchy firehouse-themed name. I'm no fire fighter, but indulging in their famous 'Hook & Ladder' and 'Firehouse Hero' subs had my taste buds doing a happy dance!
Little did I know, the warm, firehouse theme of the franchise was deeply rooted in its inception. Founders Chris and Robin Sorensen, kudos to them, brothers and former firefighters, opened the first Firehouse Subs back in 1994 in their hometown, Jacksonville, Florida. I reckon their combined love for firefighting and food led to the inception of this delightful joint.

Now, the one that caught my taste buds by surprise was their best-selling Firehouse Meatball sub - the perfect blend of Italian meatballs, sumptuous provolone, marinara, and a sprinkle of Italian seasoning. Trust me, you can't say no to this!
Are they REALLY that spicy?
To say that Firehouse Subs has a reputation for their spicy offerings would be a grave understatement. You can request your sub on the Firehouse Sub menu to be Sweet and Spicy if you're in for some hellfire. For instance, adding their special hot sauce and red pepper flakes to a sandwich...
P.S. If you’re not up for spicy subs, fret not - there's something for everyone at Firehouse Subs. Just skip the spicy fillings or sauces and you'll be good to go.
