Kekoa had to close shop in Oregon, but luckily for us, the McNie brothers soaked up his cooking wisdom and introduced the dishes into their own family’s restaurant back in Oregon. Today, they serve hometown Hawaiian food based on his traditional recipes.

The first thing to hit me was Hawaiian Bros's unwavering commitment to dishing out authentic Hawaiian plate lunches containing meat, rice, and macaroni salad. These trio offerings and their varying sizes remain their biggest selling-point; a charming deviation from the fast-casuals that overload their customers with choices. The simplicity and warmth of Hawaiian comfort food resonated with me throughout my memorable meals. Ever heard of the Hawaiian plate lunches from the 1800s? Quite some nostalgic nugget, this.
