My recent visit to Freddy's gave me a good glimpse into these 400 locations worldwide that serve up the most delectable steakburgers and frozen custard. Boy, I was far from disappointed.
Apparently, Freddy's was founded on the principles of quality, hospitality, and friendliness. And clearly, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree - these foundational values were a reflection of the way the founders' dad lived his life. No wonder they named the restaurant after him. I can't help but think of how nostalgic this must feel.
What surprised me was that Freddy's sells more than just food. Let me tell you, stepping into the restaurant felt like entering a fun, family-friendly universe with its own line of merch from shirts to baby clothes to blankets to tumbler cups. I'm already planning on becoming a regular here to show off my Freddy's merch!
More about Freddy's can be found on their official website here.
Is Freddy's a Global Eatery?
Well, Freddy's is currently exclusive to the United States only. From its humble beginnings in Kansas, it has grown its culinary empire to over 450 restaurants in 35 states. No wonder I kept seeing them on every road trip I took!
What stands out about Freddy's?
Freddy's isn't your regular burger joint. They're one of the few places focused on serving steakburgers instead of the traditional beef patties. This gives the place a throwback vibe, taking us back to the good old days – any moment, I expected a young Elvis Presley to walk in and order a steak and shake!
Does Freddy's cater to all types of palates? Totally. They nicely label any spicy options, like their Jalapeno Pepperjack burgers and Spicy Chicken Sandwich. I savored their deliciously spicy Jalapeno Pepperjack with a nice cold soda. It was an experience I'd recommend to anyone who enjoys a good kick in their meal.
What are some standout options on Freddy's menu?
Speaking of menus, Freddy’s offers a diverse range that, of course, features their crowning glory: steakburgers and frozen custard. But for the conventional at heart, they also have the likes of chicken sandwiches, hot dogs, and chili. The twist here is that you can top your frozen custard with an array of delights, making it as customized as you wish!
- Custard
- Shakes
- Sundaes
- Concrete
Their steakburgers are not just any traditional burgers. The thin piece of steak, seasoned and grilled, took my tastebuds on a joyride!
Okay, but what if I wanted to takeout or needed a home delivery?
No problem! You can place an order for pickup or delivery through their website, the mobile app, or simply by calling a location. You can also make an in-store order, and the servers will whip up your meal fresh as you wait. You're spoilt for choice as to whether to sit down and enjoy your meal right away or pack it up and take it with you.
What’s there for vegetarians and vegans?
Freddy's might be a meat lover's paradise, but they definitely have a handful of vegetarian-friendly options too! I took my vegetarian friend along who was quite delighted with the Veggie Burger. She also mentioned that the fries, cheese curds, and onion rings were scrumptious, albeit likely fried in the same oil as non-vegetarian products. For a sweet ending, they spoilt her with a wholesome, completely vegetarian custard.
When it comes to vegan options, however, the choices are fairly limited. Freddy's mostly sticks with Baked Lays Original chips and the applesauce. In some Texas Freddy’s locations, Veggie Burgers might contain eggs.
Any options for kids?
You bet! Freddy's kids' menu includes a main dish with a side of fries and a drink choice. They can choose from:
- Hamburger
- Cheeseburger
- Hot Dog
- Chicken Tenders
- Grilled Cheese Sandwich
What time are they open till?
All Freddy's start opening the doors to their patrons from 10:30am. Depending on the location, they generally close around 9:30pm or 10:00pm.
What about delivery?
Yep, they got you covered! Freddy's delivers via UberEats, GrubHub, and DoorDash. Sweet, isn't it?
Is the food healthy?
Frankly speaking, if you're on a health kick, Freddy's may not be the top place to go. Most of their menu includes heavily salted, deep-fried fare or dishes loaded with toppings and condiments. But for the health-conscious, they do have a Veggie Burger and applesauce. Their frozen custard, though full of sugar, is also a low-fat dessert option.
Can I cook their food at home?
Currently, Freddy’s doesn't sell its products for at-home cooking. But you could get lucky and find online fan-made recipes that attempt to duplicate some of their dishes. They do, however, sell their own fry sauce and fry seasoning for you to add a Freddy's twist to your home-cooked meals.
What is Freddy's Concrete?
Concrete is the American dream in a cup! Think creamy custard blended with one or more toppings. A chilly treat that’s an ode to yesteryears and delightful nostalgia.
